The first step was to select M. K. Čiurlionis’ works in which children could easily recognise the letters of the Lithuanian alphabet. We searched for the letters ourselves, involved children in the process, and consulted educators to understand what worked best.
For each painting containing a hidden letter, writer V. Bakas created a poem, which then became the inspiration for the accompanying illustrations. As Čiurlionis frequently worked with pastels, the same technique was chosen for the illustrations. The visual style was kept intentionally minimal so as not to overpower the quiet, subtle character of Čiurlionis’ paintings, while the colour palette was carefully adapted to complement the colours found in his work.

A character called "Little Spark" was created to guide children through the world of Čiurlionis and the alphabet. The character was inspired by the recurring motifs of light, glowing points, and sparks found throughout Čiurlionis’ work.
Little Spark accompanied children not only through the book, but also through the activity book created alongside "Čiurlionis’ ABC". The character later continued its journey in the museum exhibition "From Amber to the Stars", creating a visual connection between different educational activities.
